Lead safety. Shape culture. Make a real difference.
Are you a safety and risk professional who enjoys being out in the business, solving problems and making things happen?
Warrnambool City Council is looking for a proactive and people focused Safety & Risk Coordinator to lead our Safety and Risk Unit and help shape a safer, healthier and more resilient organisation.
With around 800 employees delivering a diverse range of services to the Warrnambool community, this is a role where your expertise will have genuine impact. You’ll work with people across the organisation from frontline teams through to senior leaders helping turn safety and risk principles into practical outcomes.
Why this role?
This isn't a role where you'll spend your days simply reviewing policies and ticking compliance boxes.
You'll be visible, connected and involved.
You'll build relationships, understand how our services operate, identify opportunities to improve and work with people to develop practical solutions to health, safety, injury management and risk challenges.
You'll have the opportunity to:
- Lead the Safety and Risk Unit within Council's Organisation Development Branch.
- Coordinate Council's approach to health and safety and injury management systems.
- Lead the implementation and ongoing maintenance of Council's risk framework.
- Provide trusted advice and guidance to leaders and employees across the organisation.
- Ensure Council's health and safety practices meet legislative requirements and align with organisational priorities.
- Influence and strengthen a positive safety culture across a diverse workforce.
About you
We're looking for someone who brings energy, initiative and a genuine desire to make a difference.
You'll be comfortable walking into a challenging situation, talking to the people involved, understanding what's really happening and working with them to find a way forward.
A role with variety
Council's workforce is diverse and so are the services we deliver.
That means you'll encounter different environments, different challenges and different perspectives every day. You'll need to be adaptable, curious and willing to get involved and that's exactly what makes this role interesting.
You'll have the opportunity to influence organisational systems and policy while remaining closely connected to the people and operational teams those systems are designed to support.
Why Warrnambool City Council?
At Council, safety isn't just about compliance it's about people.
You'll join an organisation that is committed to supporting its workforce and continuously improving the way we work.
This is your opportunity to take a leadership role in shaping Council's approach to safety and risk, build strong partnerships across the organisation and make a visible difference to the wellbeing of our employees, contractors, volunteers and community.
Ready to make your mark?
If you're an experienced safety and risk professional who is approachable, proactive, solutions focused and ready to roll up your sleeves, we'd love to hear from you.
Bring your expertise. Bring your ideas. Bring your can do attitude.
