Warrnambool Coastal Resilience Plan

Warrnambool City Council is developing a locally based Coastal Resilience Plan to care for the natural environment and cultural heritage along our coast.

Our coast and natural environment are already experiencing the impact of coastal hazards such as cliff erosion and storm tide surges. We need a long-term plan to help us proactively manage these changes.

Council is working with the community and agencies to understand coastal values along Lady Bay and the western coast, focusing on the natural environment, cultural heritage, local connections and natural processes.

The completed Plan will provide a staged approach to adaption activities in the medium to long term, looking at the next  20 years, and all the way out to 2100 and beyond. Coastal hazards such as erosion, storm and sea changes, impacting on coastal Crown Land are being considered through the project.

Further adaptation planning is being undertaken with the Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority, providing links across geographic locations for improved coastal management in our region.

The Coastal Resilience Plan is funded by Victoria’s Resilient Coast Program, administered by the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action.

The draft Plan will be completed by June 2027, with online and community engagement session planned later in 2026.  Further information about how you can view and provide feedback on the draft Plan will be provided over the next few months.
