Warrnambool’s three nominees for the Victorian Senior of the Year awards have been announced.
Geoff Rollinson, John McInnes and Jeanette Hajncl were officially recognised at the launch of the Warrnambool Seniors Festival at the Archie Graham Community Centre on October 2.
Attendees also enjoyed a "flash mob" style performance by the Merri Singers.
Speaking at the event Cr Richard Ziegeler congratulated the nominees and thanks all seniors for their community involvement, often over many years.
“The festival is an opportunity to recognise the enormous contribution that you all make to the community,” he said.
“It’s important that you folk, with the experience you have, and having been around, actually help to lead the community by your actions, just by being involved.”
The Victorian Senior of the Year award winners will be announced at Government House in Melbourne on October 20.
“I think you'll agree with me that Warrnambool has its own three winners,” Cr Ziegeler said.
The Warrnambool Seniors Festival includes 70 free and low-cost events held throughout October.
Warrnambool City Council is coordinating the month-long program, with people aged 60 and over invited to learn something new, stay active and connect with others.

His commitment was further demonstrated through the successful relaunch of the Warrnambool Community Garden Open Day in 2024, which attracted more than 500 attendees and was recognised as Warrnambool City Council’s Community Event of the Year.
Beyond the garden, Geoff has made a significant impact through environmental initiatives with the Warrnambool Coastcare Landcare Network and through governance roles with several community organisations.
