With this week's heavy rain leading to rapidly rising river levels, our team was on-site at the Hopkins River today to artificially open the river mouth after receiving approval from the Glenelg Hopkins Catchment Management Authority.
With high tides and strong seas, the mouth may not remain open for long, but even a relatively short window may allow for an important reduction in the height of the river to help prevent flooding.
