Council is seeking feedback from the community about racehorse training on Lady Bay.
The community feedback will be provided to the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, as part of an application under the Marine and Coastal Act consent process.
This consent is required to accompany the renewed agreement between Warrnambool City Council and Warrnambool Race Club to safely manage the activity.
“We encourage everyone interested in this topic to have a say,” Mayor Cr Ben Blain said.
“Horse training at Lady Bay is a tradition that goes back many decades.
“In more recent years, in response to an increase in training activity, Council introduced strict controls on trainers that restricted the hours and days they could access the beach.
“The controls were accepted by the horse racing industry and we believe they have been effective at keeping other beach goers safe while also reducing the environmental impact of having horses on beaches.
“So if you’re interested, let us know what you think at www.yoursaywarrnambool.com.au "
