Here's everything you need to know about kerbside bin collections over the 2025/2026 holiday season.
Extra Recycling Collection
Every household will receive an extra recycling collection for the weeks between 29 December and 11 January. Place your yellow-lidded recycling bin out for collection every week during this period, along with your usual bins.
No Waste Collection Christmas Day
Kerbside collections scheduled for Thursday night 25 December will be conducted on Friday night 26 December. All other collection days remain the same.
Trucks coming at 6pm during holiday period
From 24 December to 11 January please position bins kerbside by 6pm.
Top Recycling Tips
Check out our A-Z recycling and waste guide for the best and safest ways to dispose of hundreds of household items. Here are some extra tips that are especially relevant at this time of year:
- Batteries cannot go in any of your household bins. They can be dropped off for free at most supermarkets.
- Polystyrene (packaging foam) needs to go in your landfill bin (red lid). Tie it up in a plastic bag, otherwise it breaks up and can clog machinery or blow away into the environment.
- All food waste, including bones, can go in your FOGO bin (green lid).
- Wrapping paper goes in your recycling bin (yellow lid) as long as it's paper (not the foil type that doesn't rip easily).
- Gift bags that can't be re-used can have ropes/ribbons removed and then go in your recycling bin. Again, as long as they are the paper, cardboard type and not the shiny foil ones, which have a plastic coating.
