Princes Highway West Action Alliance

Princes Highway West Action Alliance

Warrnambool City Council is a member of the Princes Highway Action Alliance.

The alliance, comprising the municipalities of Warrnambool, Moyne, Corangamite and Colac-Otway, is lobbying State and Federal governments to improve the quality and safety of the Princes Highway between Colac and the South Australian border.

An estimated $300 million is required over the next four years for much needed road infrastructure works on the 297km stretch of the highway that is of vital importance to the people and economy of Victoria's South West.

It has been 19 years since the last VicRoads strategy for the highway was produced.

Since 2012 there have been nine fatalities, 109 people who have suffered serious injuries and many more who have been injured as a result of accidents along this stretch of the highway.

The alliance now independently funding a major review to deliver an accurate assessment of the current state of the road and identify key priorities for urgent improvements.

The alliance will also work with the recently created body, Regional Roads Victoria (RRV), which is responsible for delivering the Victorian Government’s $941 million regional roads program.
