The West Warrnambool Neighbourhood House will officially open its doors this week.

Similar to the house in Fleetwood Court in East Warrnambool, this will be a place for community members to come together to have fun, learn new things and connect with their neighbours.

The official opening of the house at 23 Beamish Street will coincide with National Harmony Day on Thursday March 21.

West Warrnambool Neighbourhood House Coordinator Jill Bourke said that neighbourhood connections make for happier and more resilient communities.

“Neighbourhoods that involve all community members, from children to older residents, result in stronger communities and healthier people,” she said.

“What can start as simply as saying hello to your neighbours can snowball to create the sort of community we all want to be a part of.

“In situations such as heatwaves and blackouts, having an awareness of your neighbours who may need a little help can even save a life.”

The neighbourhood house is co-located with the Beamish Street Kindergarten.

The launch will offer residents an opportunity to meet families and new friends from the area, with everyone encouraged to offer their ideas and suggestions regarding the type of activities they would like to participate in at their new neighbourhood house.

The event will run from 3.30pm-5.30pm.

Afternoon tea will be provided along with a broad range of fun activities.

The house is funded by The Department of Health and Human Services.
