Your council, your community - have your say

News Article Date:
Wednesday, 10 February 2016
Warrnambool will host a  community forum at which people can learn about the Victorian Government’s review of the Local Government Act.
This is the first major review of the Act in 25 years - so it’s important the community lets the Victorian Government know what reforms you want to see.
The review is looking at the objectives, roles and functions of councils; the powers required of councils to achieve these objectives and perform their roles and functions; and the extent these should be regulated under the Act. It will consider all legislation for which the Minister for Local Government is responsible.
Local Government Victoria representatives from the Department of Environment, Land, Water & Planning will be available to respond to community questions about the review.
"Councils have a significant impact on people's lives through the provision of services ranging from maintenance of parks and gardens through to meals on wheels and fostering economic development," Warrnambool Mayor Cr Kylie Gaston said.
"I encourage people interested in the Council and Warrnambool's future to come along to the forum. It's a great opportunity to gain an insight into the review of the Act and to put any questions you might have to Local Government Victoria representatives."
To learn more about the review or to have your say visit:
Time: 3-5 pm
Date: 23 February 2016
Location: Lighthouse Theatre, Studio Room.
