VEC recommends current electoral structure

News Article Date:
Wednesday, 18 November 2015

The final report for the Warrnambool City Council electoral representation review has been released today (November 18). In it, the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) puts forward a recommended electoral structure for the municipality. The report has been delivered to the Minister for Local Government, The Hon. Natalie Hutchins, for her consideration.

The VEC recommends Warrnambool City Council continue to consist of seven councillors elected from an unsubdivided municipality.

‘A periodic representation review is important to ensure a council’s electoral structure continues to provide fair and equitable representation for all voters,’ said Electoral Commissioner Warwick Gately. ‘The VEC has found that Warrnambool City Council’s current structure is the most appropriate.’

The VEC commenced the review in July, holding two rounds of public submissions, a public information session and a public hearing during the process. The VEC researched key features of the municipality and carefully considered public submissions in making its recommendation.

The final report is available from the VEC by visiting or calling 131 832.
