The energy, skills and insights young people bring to the community are invaluable.

Whether it’s through community work and volunteering, sporting achievements, academic excellence or expression through the creative arts, our region is home to some extraordinary young people.

Nominations for the 2015 Warrnambool and Moyne Youth Achiever Awards are now open.

The awards aim to recognise the exceptional talents of young people aged 12-21 residing in Warrnambool or Moyne.

Award categories include Academic, Sport, Arts and Culture as well as Community and Leadership and the overall Youth Achiever of the Year.

Warrnambool Youth Mayor Declan Primmer encouraged everyone in the community to think about the young people they know and consider submitting a nomination.

“The Youth Achiever Awards are a great opportunity for the community to come together and recognise the levels of excellence being achieved by the young people in our region,” he said.

“Nominating a young person for an award is not only an acknowledgment of their achievements to date, it can spur them on to even greater things.

“While young people are the leaders of tomorrow, many are accomplishing great things today.”

Moyne Shire Youth Councillor Mollie Keast said that there are many young people who are working hard in their communities.

“These awards offer the chance not only to recognise the efforts of individuals but the hard work and dedication of the numerous young people who make a significant contribution to our area.”

The event is coordinated by the Warrnambool City and Moyne Shire youth councils with the award ceremony to be held at the Lighthouse Theatre on February 10.
