LoungeFest Volume 2

Stay in and rock out with LoungeFest this Saturday

News Article Date:
Tuesday, 26 May 2020

After the incredible success that was Get Around Warrnambool – LoungeFest, a follow up event will be streamed on Facebook on Saturday May 30 from 6.30pm.

As well as streaming pre-recorded performances by 14 musical acts with ties to Warrnambool, LoungeFest Volume 2 will include sets from local comedians.

Viewership of the original event on April 11 peaked at 1800 simultaneous screens, instantly making the concert one of the biggest in the city’s history.

Musicians and comedians taking part will be paid for their performances. Additionally, viewers will be able to make contributions to each performer’s “tip jar” as well as Support Act – an Australian charity that delivers crisis relief services to artists, crew and music workers.

The event is a being coordinated by Warrnambool City Council, ACE Radio, Fitz Media Productions, Dirty Angel Comedy and local resident Karen Thomson.

“Even with easing restrictions, there’s still uncertainty around the future of our live entertainment industry,” Ms Thomson said.

“A scene which is part of the fabric of our culture in Warrnambool. A scene that needs our protection and support.

“This weekend LoungeFest returns with Volume 2, a celebration of local talent.

“It’s the perfect opportunity to Get Around Warrnambool by ordering takeaway from your favourite venue and sitting back and enjoying a wide variety of music on a different platform, whilst staying home and safe.”

Warrnambool Mayor Tony Herbert said that after the success of the first LoungeFest, there were immediate calls to start planning a follow up.

“Get Around Warrnambool – LoungeFest was an incredible event” he said.

“There was nothing but positive energy, and it seemed like the focus of the entire city was on our local musicians.

“With so many people watching, it became a real shared experience between thousands of people across the city, but also across the world.

“With streaming becoming so popular, it’s rare to have so many people watching the same thing at the same time nowadays, apart from sport.

“After LoungeFest though, the next day, that’s all everyone was talking about. It was like the final episode of MASH.

“Speaking to some of the performers after the event, I think they really felt the love.

“Although the State Government is beginning to ease some restrictions, there’s still a lot we don’t know about when live music might be able to return to some semblance of normality.

“So LoungeFest is on again to celebrate our city’s musicians, and some comedians as well, as we all get around them for another virtual group hug.”

Get Around Warrnambool – LoungeFest Volume 2 will be live streamed on the Warrnambool City Council, COAST FM and Fitz Media Facebook pages. It will also be broadcast live on the radio at 95.3 COAST FM.
