Few topics in Warrnambool generate as wide a range of opinions as the business sector, but what does the data say?

State of the City: Warrnambool’s Economic Perspective will explore the findings of the recent Warrnambool Business Trends Survey, comparable statistics and figures from other cities, key census data and emerging trends.

The free event is part of the Great South Coast Small Business Festival and will be held at 12pm, Tuesday August 15 at the Lady Bay Resort.

Warrnambool City Council Director City Growth Andrew Paton said the discussion will convey macro trends impacting business and industry, findings of the 2017 Warrnambool business trends survey and demographic changes from the recent census release.  

“This is an opportunity to get an evidence-based perspective of how Warrnambool and the region are performing in an economic sense,” he said.

“There will also be an analysis of the macro and micro trends which are influencing not just Warrnambool, but global markets.

“This session will provide new and existing businesses with up-to-date, robust and statistically significant information which might help inform future decision making.”

The event will see presentations from AsPr Helen Scarborough – Department of Economics at Deakin University, Dr Scott Salzmann – Department of Business Law at Deakin University, Andrew Paton –Warrnambool City Council, Keenan Jackson – demographics firm Profile ID and Steve Callaghan – Callaghan Motors. 

The presenters will analyse and explain how newly released data is relevant to businesses of all sizes and industries.
