School holiday film festival

The Lighthouse Theatre and Warrnambool Youth Council will again team up to raise funds for youth mental health support with a mini film festival during the September school holidays.

Family comedy Madagascar, Lindsay Lohan’s breakout film The Parent Trap and Australian favourite Happy Feet will be screened at 1.30pm on September 21, 23 and 25 respectively.

This year’s event follows on from the success of last year’s spring school holiday film festival which raised $500 for national youth mental health foundation, headspace.

Warrnambool Youth Mayor Declan Primmer said that he was very excited to see the festival return.

“The film festival is an excellent opportunity for parents to get their kids out of the house over the holidays,” he said.

“We are showing movies that are suitable for any age and at only $5 a ticket it is a fun and affordable way to entertain everyone during the break.

“Raising money for headspace is also something we are very happy to be involved in again, as they provide incredible support to the young people of our region.”

Warrnambool City Council Youth Development Planner Ken Radley commended the Warrnambool Youth Council on its decision to support headspace.

“Headspace is designed to make it as easy as possible for a young person and their family to get the help they need for problems affecting their wellbeing,” he said.

“By getting together with your family or friends and settling down in front of the big screen at the Lighthouse Theatre to watch a film, not only are you guaranteed 90 minutes of entertainment, you’ll be enabling headspace to help 80,000 young Australians going through a rough patch.

“This is the ideal environment to either relive a favourite film or discover a new one this school holidays.”

All tickets are $5 with funds raised going to headspace.
Headspace Warrnambool is located at the Brophy Community and Youth Complex, 210 Timor Street.

Headspace services are also available at and 1800 650 890.

Films classifications: Madagascar PG, The Parent Trap PG, Happy Feet G.
