Now it’s official.

The East Warrnambool Community Parks were declared open this week by Mayor Cr Robert Anderson.

The centrepiece of the parks project is Wavelinks Park which features a basketball court, skate elements and paths lit by solar-powered lighting.

The $564,000 project was the result of a partnership between Council and the community with funding provided by Council, Sport and Recreation Victoria and the Department of Justice and Regulation.

“Everyone involved in the project should be extremely proud of the new facilities,” Cr Anderson said.

“We now have a safe, attractive and well-designed park that encourages physical activity and social gatherings.

“The motion-activated lighting will help residents get to where they want to go more easily and more safely.

“I look forward to seeing locals ‘hitting some threes’ on the basketball court, children riding their bikes along new pathways and playing ball games in a safe place.”

At the opening were those involved in developing the project including Victoria Police Superintendent Peter Greaney and Inspector Paul Marshall, representatives from East Warrnambool Primary School and Community Crew, representatives from the East Warrnambool Neighbourhood & Community Centre, representatives from the Gateway Church of Christ, officers from the Department of Human Services and local residents.
