Nominations open for Senior of the Year

News Article Date:
Wednesday, 5 August 2015

Nominations are now open for the 2015 Warrnambool City Council Senior Citizen of the Year.

The award, presented by the Warrnambool City Council and Anchor Point Village, recognises the significant contribution senior citizens make to various aspects of life in Warrnambool.

Archie Graham Community Centre Coordinator Mary McLeod said that it was nice to be able to recognise people who have given so much to the community.

“Whether through volunteering, mentoring or imparting knowledge, Warrnambool’s seniors are an invaluable resource,” she said.

“If you look at the clubs and organisations around town, many of them rely heavily on their more senior members to carry out all sorts of roles.

“Without a doubt, our community would be lost without the contributions of our over 60s.

“I would invite all members of the community to pause for a moment, think about the seniors they know and consider submitting a nomination.”

The Warrnambool Senior of the Year will be announced at the Lady Bay on September 30 as part of a ceremony to launch ‘Celebrage’ – Warrnambool’s Seniors Festival.

Residents residing within the Warrnambool City Council municipality who are 60 or older are eligible for the award.

Nominations close on Friday September 11 at 5pm.
