Boiling Down Road in the city’s east is set for a major upgrade.

Regional Roads Victoria, a division of VicRoads, has announced a $680,000 grant to reconstruct and widen the road surface, allowing for two lanes of traffic between Gateway Road and Horne Road. The Warrnambool City Council will contribute the remaining $150,000 to complete the project, which is expected to begin in early 2019.

Warrnambool City Council Director City Infrastructure Scott Cavanagh welcomed the grant to upgrade the 1.2km section of road.

“Boiling Down Road was due for an upgrade,” he said.

“The volume of traffic using the road has greatly increased since the completion of the Horne Road and Aberline Road redevelopments.

“Over the coming years, Boiling Down Road will become an even more important connection for people looking to access the Horne Road business park and thousands of new residential properties in the city’s north-east.

“We are excited to start work on this important east-west link to help better manage the growth of our city.”

Boiling Down Road will be closed, with the exception of local traffic, for the duration of the approximately two month works schedule.
