Warrnambool’s Fun4Kids Festival has been recognised as Victoria’s best festival in 2015.

The festival won gold in the Festivals and Events category at the 2015 RACV Victorian Tourism Awards in Melbourne last night.

This isn’t the first time that the Fun4Kids Festival has been recognised at the state’s most prestigious tourism awards, with a place in the Victorian Tourism Awards Hall of Fame secured in 2007 to go with three Australian Tourism awards between 2006 and 2008.

Warrnambool City Council Mayor Michael Neoh congratulated everyone involved in delivering such a successful festival.

“This award acknowledges the hard work done by volunteers and staff over a long time, but particularly in the last year where challenges were met and overcome,” he said.

“Sometimes we don’t recognise what we have in our own backyard and the positive effect that Fun4Kids has on not only Warrnambool, but the entire region.”

Warrnambool City Council Events and Promotions Manager and Fun4Kids Festival Director Merran Fyfe said that an increased community focus and efforts to ensure the festival’s long-term sustainability were key factors in re-claiming the award.

“To be judged the best festival in Victoria ahead of so many other fantastic events really puts into perspective how well regarded the Fun4Kids Festival is around the state,” she said.

“In working more closely with the community in 2015 as well as strengthening the evolution and sustainability of the Fun4Kids Festival, we have in our city an event which is once again considered best practice in Victoria.

“While the 2016 festival is still more than seven months away, planning is already well under way to ensure that it is a success.”

Fun4Kids now receives automatic entry into the Australian Tourism Awards, which will be held in February.

For over 30 years the Victorian Tourism Awards have showcased and recognised the state’s leaders in tourism excellence.

The awards play an integral role in rewarding business excellence, innovation, industry professionalism, collaboration and initiative while encouraging businesses to meet and strive to exceed industry standards.
