Free parking in CBD #getaroundwarrnambool

News Article Date:
Thursday, 9 April 2020

Free parking in Warrnambool’s city centre will be continued until at least June 30.

“The free parking recognises that many businesses are moving to providing deliveries and/or click and collect services,” Warrnambool Mayor Cr Tony Herbert said.

“This will make it easy for people to come in to the city centre and quickly obtain the items they need.

“Many of our businesses have been quick to adapt to the new regulations introduced to combat the spread of COVID-19.

“Free parking will create more opportunity for people to invest back into Warrnambool and get around the businesses that are able to remain open.

“If we can safely keep parts of the economy ticking over it will help keep people employed.

“However, it is still important that people adhere to the time limits.

“And while we are encouraging people to use the free parking we really don’t want people gathering in large numbers in the city centre.

“It is imperative that we follow the expert medical advice on social distancing.

“We also urge people to take responsibility for their own hand hygiene.

“Washing hands regularly or using hand sanitiser with an alcohol content of at least 60 per cent is recommended by the Department of Health and Human Services

“It is also important that people understand Council and businesses cannot sanitise every surface that people come into contact with, whether it is hand rails, seats or playground equipment.

“That’s why personal responsibility is so important.

“We must take the advice on hand washing and social distancing extremely seriously if we are to help stop the spread of COVID-19.”
