The Warrnambool Incident Control Centre has advised Council to close the flood gates along Russells Creek.
This is a precautionary measure with thunderstorms and heavy rain predicted to occur across parts of the South West later this afternoon and this evening, January 31.
As a result of this action the Russells Creek footpath will be closed until the forecast storms have passed and the extent of flooding – if any – is known.
The flood gates are part of the North Warrnambool Flood Mitigation Project and help provide flood protection for more than 700 properties in the Russells Creek area.
