Drawing on the wisdom of crowds

News Article Date:
Monday, 25 September 2017

Students from Warrnambool College, Brauer College and Warrnambool East Primary School, along with young artists from Loop Studio, have made their mark on the Warrnambool 2040 planning process - literally.

Their colourful artwork has transformed the big “W2040” signage to illustrate the community aspirations for Warrnambool’s environment, economy, people and place.

The signs have been returned to the Civic Green to signal the start of the next stage in developing the community-led plan.

Warrnambool City Council is currently asking people to join the Warrnambool 2040 (W2040) Planning Panel. The panel will comprise about 100 local people who will gather on October 21 at an event where “everyday citizens” will develop long-term goals and priorities for Warrnambool’s future.

Warrnambool City Council Manager Community Planning and Policy Lisa McLeod said that panel members will be inspired by urban futurist and former Lord Mayor of Adelaide, Stephen Yarwood who will challenge participants to be future-focused.

“Stephen is a really dynamic leader who will help panel members not to get stuck in the issues and challenges of today when planning for our city in 2040,” she said.

“He is a really visionary thinker who will open people’s eyes to the possibilities the next decades will bring.”

On the planning day participants will have the opportunity to hear and discuss the views of other panel members and develop recommendations for Council about what should be included in the W2040 community plan.

For more information or to express an interest in joining the panel, go to Alternatively, expression of interest packs can be collected from the Civic Centre, 25 Liebig Street Warrnambool.

Expressions of interest must be lodged by 5pm on Monday, October 2.
