Cr Kylie Gaston will continue as mayor of Warrnambool.

Following her re-election as a councillor earlier this month, Cr Gaston was chosen by the new Council as its mayor at the Annual Meeting on Monday November 14.

Cr Gaston congratulated her fellow Councillors on being elected and said she was excited to be leading the new Council.

“Over the next four years there are many things to both finish and commence. We will soon be developing a long-term community plan and a council plan and we look forward to actively involving the community in the development of those plans,” she said.

“Let’s work together, boost business confidence, grow pride in our city and work with our strong and creative arts community to bring energy and vitality to Warrnambool.

“There is so much to do and achieve and I am thrilled and humbled to stand before you tonight as your mayor, very confident that the team before you is prepared to work hard and passionately on the issues before us.”

Cr Gaston identified the City Centre Renewal, a safer harbour, advocacy for Stage II of the Base Hospital redevelopment, tourism, roads, and improvements to Reid Oval as priorities for this Council term.

She will serve as the city’s mayor for the next 12 months.

The meeting also saw the new Council officially sworn into office. Cr Gaston was joined by returning councillors Peter Hulin and Michael Neoh with Robert Anderson, Sue Cassidy, Tony Herbert and David Owen the first-time councillors.

The first Ordinary Meeting of Council will be held on Monday November 28 at 5.45pm
