This report seeks Council’s adoption of a revised draft Councillor Code of Conduct dated February 2017 (the draft Code).

A Councillor Code of Conduct sets out the standards for conduct expected of Councillors and is a key tool for guiding Councillor behaviour and fostering community understanding of good governance and confidence in Council’s decision making.

Following the October 2016 general election, Council is required to review and adopt a Councillor Code of Conduct at a Special Meeting by 22 February 2017.

The existing Councillor Code of Conduct was substantially revised during 2016 to comply with the Local Government Act reforms and adopted by Council on 4 July 2016.

The draft Code has been reviewed and minor amendments recommended.

If adopted, Councillors will be required, within one month of adoption, to declare in writing their commitment to abide by the Code, and Council will make the Code available to the community through its website.

It is recommended that Council adopt the revised Councillor Code of Conduct as tabled.

Council adopted the revised Councillor Code of Conduct (6-1).
