Warrnambool City Council and Deakin University recently hosted a group of students and several staff from Changchun’s Jilin University.

The students are currently studying engineering at Deakin’s Waurn Ponds campus and they took the opportunity to spend several days at Deakin’s Warrnambool campus along with visiting several of our major tourist attractions here in Warrnambool.

Warrnambool has a sister city relationship with Changchun, where Jilin University was founded in 1946 .

“The relationship has enabled two great universities to share ideas and knowledge,” Warrnambool Mayor Cr Robert Anderson said.

“Council is very proud to have Deakin here in Warrnambool and the relationship with Jilin further strengthens the university presence in our city. “

The Director of Deakin University’s Warrnambool campus Alistair McCosh said the visit to Warrnambool by the Jilin University had resulted from the partnership Deakin has with Changchun through the Warrnambool City Council.

“It is a partnership Deakin is committed to growing in the coming years and the wish to see more Changchun students gain their degree here at our Warrnambool campus,” Mr McCosh said.

Both Jilin and Deakin universities are committed to the pursuit of excellence.

Deakin is ranked in the top 50 of the world’s universities aged under 50.

Jilin University has the prestigious honour of being identified by the Chinese Government as a Double First Class University meaning that it is considered one of several elite Chinese universities with a focus on delivering world class tertiary courses.
