Great building designs in Warrnambool will be officially recognised through a new awards event.

Nominations are now open for the inaugural Warrnambool Building Design Awards which recognise and reward outstanding sustainable design in building, landscape and public open spaces.

Warrnambool Mayor Cr Michael Neoh said the impacts of outstanding building design extended well beyond a building’s footprint.

“A beautifully designed, energy efficient building is great not only for the people using the building but can add value to a streetscape, neighbourhood while having a minimal impact on the environment,” Cr Neoh said.

“All building sites are unique and each has its own complexities.

“Architects, designers and their clients have to maximise the possibilities of each site and endeavour to ensure the buildings, streetscapes and open spaces complement the surrounds.”

All members of the community as well as building design professionals are encouraged to nominate a property / development for a Warrnambool Building Design Award.
