Battle of the Bands 2014

News Article Date:
Wednesday, 23 July 2014

As well as the adulation of the crowd and a spot in the regional finals, entrants in the 2014 FReeZa Push Start Battle of the Bands will have the chance to experience the life of a professional recording artist.

The top ten performers will be invited to participate in the Kool Skools project to record their best song for a Warrnambool compilation album.

Musicians will have the chance to impress on August 22 and 23 at the Lighthouse Studio.

Warrnambool City Council Youth Development Planner Katie McKean said that this is a great new opportunity for all young Warrnambool musicians to have a chance at getting their music recorded for free.

“The Battle will be held over two nights to help accommodate for the expected increase in demand, with solo, duo and acoustic performers on one night and bands on the other,” she said.

“Having the opportunity to record your best song in a studio with professional sound engineers guiding you through the process is an experience we hope will appeal to a broad spectrum of young local musicians.”

Applications are open for people aged 12-25 who live, work or go to school in Warrnambool and close on Friday August 8.

Are you more comfortable with photoshop than a Fender? Then the Kool Skools media competition is for you.

The project needs graphic design/visual art/media savvy young people to help design the compilation CD cover and prepare the video clip to promote the CD.

Two winners will join the Kool Skools Project team in Melbourne on September 22 and 23 to prepare the CD cover and video clip, with the assistance of professional graphic designs at Studio 52 in Melbourne.

This is a fully supervised, drug and alcohol free, access all abilities event.

FReeZA Push Start Battle of the Bands is a partnership between the Warrnambool City Council and Brophy Family and Youth Services with support from the Victorian Government.
