News Article Date:
Tuesday, 4 November 2014

Warrnambool is a very special place to live or visit and it is the dedication of hard-working, community-minded people that helps to make it so.

One way of recognising these local heroes for their contributions is to nominate them for a 2015 Warrnambool Australia Day Award.

Nominations are now open with the awards recognising outstanding contributions to the local community during 2014 or over a longer timeframe.

Categories include Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year (aged 16-30), Community Event of the Year and Local Achiever.

Warrnambool Australia Day Advisory Committee chairman Andrew Suggett called on all residents to reflect on the outstanding individuals and events that make Warrnambool a better place.

“There are so many incredible citizens making a difference in our community, but we need your help to give them the recognition they deserve,” Mr Suggett said.

“I ask everyone to pause for five minutes, think about the people who contribute so much to the community and nominate them for an award.

“A nomination for a Warrnambool Australia Day Award is a great way to thank a local champion for their fantastic efforts.”

Contributions could include areas such as education, health, fund-raising, voluntary services, sports, arts, the environment or any other area that contributes to the advancement and wellbeing of the community.

The winners will be announced at the Warrnambool City Council’s Australia Day event at the Warrnambool Botanic Gardens on Monday January 26, 2015.

Nomination forms are available at the Civic Centre, 25 Liebig St.

Nominations can also be submitted online.

Submissions close at 5pm on Monday December 1, 2014.
