Some of the region’s best and brightest young people were recognised at the Warrnambool and Moyne Youth Achiever Awards, with the annual presentation held on Wednesday February 18 at the Lighthouse Theatre.

This year’s awards were more hotly contested than ever, with a record 220 nominations submitted, an increase of about 70 on last year.

23 young people received recognition for their efforts in categories including Arts and Culture, Community and Leadership, Sport, Academics plus the overall Youth Achiever category.

The top Warrnamboolians were Alana Johnson and Tim Chenoweth while Georgia Huglin and Lachlan Moir claimed Moyne’s top honour.

Warrnambool City Youth Mayor Declan Primmer said he was pleased to see the extraordinary efforts of young Warrnambool and Moyne residents celebrated.

“It is great to see such strong community support both in nominations and in the number of people attending the event,” Mr Primmer said.

“Every nominee has made a significant contribution to our region and it was very hard to choose between candidates.

“There are so many young people who achieve so much in our community and I would like to congratulate them for their hard work and dedication.”

The event is organised by the Warrnambool and Moyne youth councils, providing them with valuable real life event planning experience.

The Warrnambool and Moyne Youth Achiever Awards are sponsored by the Rotary Club of Warrnambool, Warrnambool Bluelight, Darrian Office and Art Supplies, South West Sport, Warrnambool City Council and Moyne Shire Council.
