Natural Environment

The South West region of Victoria is recognised for its climate change resilience, with good reliable rainfall, productive farming areas and wildlife corridors along the coast and waterways which may serve as invaluable drought refuges for wildlife.

Warrnambool’s ability to become a “green City” is enhanced by renewable energy capabilities of wind, solar, geothermal and wave power, all of which are capable for being produced and utilised in an urban setting. Current and future sustainable transport corridors on our rivers and creeks, the Foreshore Promenade and the rail trail will prove priceless if fuel prices continue to increase by reducing car dependency and improving general fitness and social well being.

Council and community partnership projects such as the middle island maremma Project and reveg the Flume are recognised nationally and internationally as significant environmental achievements. We must build upon these successful projects and other partnerships if we are to meet the challenges of environmental sustainability and change our unsustainable lifestyles.
