Communication Access

Communication Project

Verbal communication is the foremost method of getting our message across immediately.

People with limited communication abilities and/or cognitive disabilities may find it difficult to ask for help or report effectively.

With input from local police, health, disability and self-advocate services, we have developed communication boards to assist people with communication difficulties in times of trauma and distress.

** Only 3% of sexual abuses involving people with intellectual disabilities are ever reported**

What is available?

  1. Safety Card for Lanyard: For individuals - to help with accessing appropriate support when required.
  2. Communication Boards 1 & 2: For Support Service Providers – to assist in effective communication between the support service provider and the person with communication/cognitive difficulties.
