Business Initiative Grants (BIG)

Supporting our businesses to rebuild

BIG applications Open 2nd June and close 23rd June for initiatives planned for August 1, 2020, to July 31, 2021.

Guidelines

Warrnambool City Council in response to the impact of COVID-19 on local businesses developed the ‘Get Around Warrnambool Campaign’ (GAW) focussing on information, resources and initiatives to support Councils Respond, Recover and Rebuild Strategy. The introduction of the Business Initiatives Grants (BIG) are part of the Rebuild phase of GAW.

The funding aims to support businesses who have a physical location and operate in the Warrnambool City Council boundary to implement an idea or approach which will lead to business improvements and/or increased levels of business.

Scope

The Business Initiatives Grants Program (BIG) allows businesses to apply for grants with $1: $1 match funding up to $3,000 per business to implement new ideas, projects or programs that will help them to diversify and grow. The BIG guidelines have a set scope and principles which will encourage businesses to collaborate, be entrepreneurial and create mutual benefits for both their business and the community.

At the discretion of council an initial funding round will be held with any future rounds determined by remaining funds being available from the allocated budget.
BIG funding criteria and the assessment of applications is weighted towards existing businesses and industry sectors which have been the most adversely affected by the impact of COVID-19. Industries identified by Council as being eligible include those from the following sectors:

  • Retail
  • Hospitality
  • Automotive - Servicing & Sales
  • Personal Services
  • Accommodation Services
  • Leisure and Recreation
  • Professional Home Improvement Services

If your business does not fall under any of these sectors we advise contacting a BIG Case Manager to discuss how your business was affected by COVID-19.
