Council acknowledges that events, regardless of scale, play a critical role in community health and wellbeing, creating economic stimulus, encouraging community pride and participation, and generating legacy infrastructure and capacity for our region.

We recognise the significant challenges the events industry has faced due to Covid19. In response, Warrnambool City Council is delivering a bespoke event funding round to Activate Warrnambool and assist event organisers, community groups and businesses deliver exciting, new, covid safe events that support locals and attract visitors.

Program objectives:

The Activate Warrnambool Grants are available for 2021 only and are intended to support the safe return of event activations in Warrnambool.
Council will support safe, accessible, new events that create memorable experiences, drive visitation and have positive economic and community outcomes.

  • Increase visitation to Warrnambool
  • Support new event creation
  • Create memorable experiences that are unique to Warrnambool
  • Increase economic stimulus through increased spend
  • Develop a diverse, vibrant and inclusive annual calendar of events

In response to Covid-19, the requirement for applicants to meet the standard funding ratio of 1:1 for eligibility has been removed.
Priority will be given to applications that clearly align with above objectives and the Warrnambool Events & Promotions Strategy.

Grant Round Dates

Applications are accepted from Monday 29 March 2021 to Monday 19 April 2021.

  • Funding Round Open 9:00am Monday 29 March 2021
  • Funding Round Close 5.00pm Monday 19 April 2021
  • Applicants notified of funding outcome Monday 26 April 2021
  • Project completed 1 May 2021 – 30 November 2021
  • Project acquitted by 31 December 2021

Seed Funding Supports the development of new events that demonstrate a strong community focus.

Applications that are eligible will fall under one of the following categories:

1. Small to medium events: up to $5,000
2. Large festivals and events: up to $10,000

Small to medium events are smaller activation type events that could be delivered using grant funding only (workshops, activations, ticketed experiences, pop up events etc)

Large Festivals and Events are more complex events with elements of programming and will require a substantial amount of additional revenue to deliver (music festivals etc)

Provide a name for your project/event. Your title should be short but descriptive
Must be no more than 50 words.
Must be no more than 300 words.
Must be no more than 100 words.

Please provide details on how residents and visitors will participate in this festival or event.

  • All details supplied in this application and attachments are true and correct to the best of my knowledge. The application form has been submitted with the full knowledge and agreement of the applicant organisation and auspice organisation (if applicable).
  • I acknowledge that I have read and understood the guidelines.

If this application is successful: I agree, on behalf of our group to complete a Post Event Survey upon project completion.
On behalf of our group, I also give permission for any images or members of our group or funded project to be used by the Warrnambool City Council for the purposes of producing promotional material/advertising the Community Development Fund. This may include printed media, media releases and the Council website. I will immediately advise Council should I wish to revoke consent on behalf of the group.
