Warrnambool City Council and Parks Victoria have stepped up beach patrols and will prosecute dog owners in an effort to save the last remaining fairy penguins and shearwaters on Stingray Bay (Merri Marine Sanctuary) and Middle Island.
An intensified fox-control program will be carried out over the next three weeks after fox control experts from Phillip Island and Melbourne met with Warrnambool City Council to stop further attacks on penguins and other bird life on Middle Island.
Point Ritchie’s dated toilet block is to be replaced with state-of-the-art hybrid toilets and new shelter, reducing water usage and damage to the Hopkins River environment.
