Business Awards reception 2014

Little to separate business award nominees says chief judge

The Warrnambool Business community is gearing up for the industry’s night of nights with the Powercor Warrnambool Business Excellence Awards Gala Presentation at the Lighthouse Theatre on Friday October 31.

Chief judge Bruce Hall, business mentor at the not-for-profit Small Business Mentoring Service, said that he was impressed by the calibre of entries in this year’s awards.

“There really are some amazing businesses and it will be really hard to pick the winners. It’s so close. There is a piece of tissue paper between some of them,” Mr Hall said.

“I haven’t seen any businesses that weren’t worthy of a nomination. They all have strong points.”

Mr Hall has been visiting Warrnambool three to four times a year over the past six years running business workshops and mentoring sessions and said Warrnambool can be proud of its excellent and innovative business community.

“There are more entrepreneurs in Warrnambool per kilometre than anywhere else,” Mr Hall said.

“The big thing I see here compared to the city is the community involvement of the businesses. Virtually every one of the nominees is involved in at least one or two ways of giving back.”

Mr Hall urged the business community to attend the award ceremony and recognise the achievements of their peers.

“In all business, particularly in small business, awards like this are important to help the businesses get some recognition for all the work they do,” he said.

“Running a business is a lot of hard work and this gives them a chance to be recognised for that.

“Clearly there are only going to be a certain amount of winners, but I’d encourage the businesses that miss out this year or didn’t nominate, to nominate next year as their business continues to evolve.”

The awards are presented in partnership by the Warrnambool City Council and 3YB/COASTFM and sponsored by Powercor, the Victorian Government, CTI International, The Standard, Crowe Horwath, The Midfield Group, VECCI, Deakin University, PRIME, Matchworks, South West TAFE, Monaghan's Pharmacy, Commerce Warrnambool, South West Healthcare and Telstra.

Tickets for the gala presentation are available from the Lighthouse Theatre by calling 5559 4999 or www.lighthousetheatre.com.au
