Demonstrating simple ways for people of all ages to live a cleaner, greener life is the aim of the Warrnambool Sustainable Living Festival.

For the first time, the festival will run over two days, with sessions for school students on February 24 followed by a public event on the Civic Green on February 25.

The schools’ day will see students take part in fun workshops highlighting the importance of recycling and walking or riding their bike whenever they can.

They will also work on public artworks with Ella Webb from Loop Studios as well as make puppets from recycled materials with help from the popular Trash Puppets company.

The public event will include a fabulous range of market stalls, a pop up café, kids’ activities and exhibits from a range of businesses and community groups.

Warrnambool City Council Sustainability Officer Helen Sheedy said that most people wanted to live more sustainably, but they weren’t always sure of how to go about it.

“The festival is full of useful tips on how to reduce your environmental impact with minimal effort,” she said.

“Children can often be better recyclers than their parents, so hopefully some of the environmental tips they learn will rub off on the rest of their family.”

Another new initiative for 2017 is the Wannon Water Roubaix on February 24. This Roubaix is like a scavenger hunt on wheels, with families encouraged to cycle around Warrnambool completing various activities.

Groups can register from 4.30pm at the Civic Green. All entries go in the draw to win a new bike.

Businesses looking to exhibit at the festival and anyone with any enquiries can contact Lauren Schneider on 5559 4800 or lschneider@warrnambool.vic.gov.au.
