Have your say on Lake Pertobe and the botanic gardens

Warrnambool residents are invited to have their say on two of Warrnambool’s iconic open spaces.

Earlier this year Warrnambool City Council began a process to develop separate master plans for Lake Pertobe and the Warrnambool Botanic Gardens.

The master plans will guide future Council investment and activities to maintain, renew, improve and manage these treasured community assets over the next 10 to 15 years.

“In January and February this year Council asked the community to tell us what they loved about Lake Pertobe and the Warrnambool Botanic Gardens,” Council Manager Community Policy and Planning Lisa McLeod said.

“Based on the feedback we received from the community engagement, Council has developed draft visions along with a list of issues and opportunities for both sites.

“What became clear from the discussions earlier this year was the great affection residents have for these places.

“People of all ages loved Lake Pertobe, in particular the play equipment, barbecue facilities, grassed areas and wildlife.

“Among the possible changes or improvements suggested were an update of play areas, upgraded and better linked paths and trails and improved signage and wayfinding.

“In commenting on the botanic gardens people told us they loved the trees, grassy areas, the botanical variety and the peaceful character of the space.

“Improvements suggested included more trees and plants, upgraded toilets, better signage and access and more places to sit or play.”

“We’re now inviting the community to provide us with their thoughts on the draft visions before we proceed to preparing the draft master plans,” Ms McLeod said.
