Council keeping a close watch on the Merri River

News Article Date:
Tuesday, 7 June 2016

Council is continuing to carefully monitor the height of the Merri River.

Council’s Manager Infrastructure Services Glenn Reddick advises that it is likely that the river flow will be enough to force the river mouth open over the next day or two.

"Water is currently flowing towards the river mouth and carving a channel," Mr Reddick said.

However, if the river continues to rise and threatens properties, the Glenelg Hopkins Catchment Management Authority has given Council permission to artificially open the river mouth.
