Warrnambool has a new Youth Mayor.

Gabby Good was elected by her fellow youth councillors this week with Tom O’Sullivan elected Deputy Youth Mayor.

The Year 12 Warrnambool College student, beginning her third year on the Warrnambool Youth Council, will lead the group for the next 12 months.

Gabby said it was a “big honour” to be chosen as the city’s new youth leader.

“Youth Council is a great way for kids from different schools to work together and have an influence over the broader community, and it’s very special to be able to be a part of it,” she said.

“Our focus (for the coming year) will be on education and VCE attainment, which ties in with the school retention work happening around the region.

“It’s good to be working on a project we are all passionate about.

“There are no simple solutions, but we will tackle it bit by bit.”

Mayor Kylie Gaston congratulated Gabby on her new role.

“It’s great to have a new Youth Mayor and I’m confident that Gabby will do a great job,” she said.

“It’s fantastic that we have a driven Youth Council to represent and provide a voice for the youth of our city.

“The Youth Council does a lot of work throughout the year that many in the community may not know about, but it makes a big difference in the lives of the region’s young people.”
