Get active this April

News Article Date:
Monday, 4 April 2016

Everyone knows the importance of being active, and this April the Warrnambool City Council is making it easier than ever to get moving.

During Active April there will be heaps of free activities ranging from free fitness classes to giant games on the Civic Green.

Warrnambool City Council Community Policy and Planning Manager Lisa McLeod said that Active April encouraged people of all ages to join in an activity.

“During Active April there’s plenty of free fun for everyone, from toddlers to grandparents and everyone in between,” she said.

“Last year Warrnambool’s Active April program saw hundreds of local people try new activities as Council offered free come-and-try sessions across its recreation facilities from swim coaching to gymnastics, walking groups to group fitness classes and social cycling to gym sessions.

“85 per cent of those surveyed in 2015 found the free Active April activities very enjoyable and said they would do it again while 95 per cent said they would recommend the activity to friends and family.

“This year there is even more free fun on offer as community groups and clubs get on board.”

Free Council-run activities include free Body Balance, Body Combat, AquaFit, Pulse Lite and gym introductions at AquaZone, Litemoves, Barre Attack and Strength classes at the Archie Graham Centre and children’s gymnastic sessions (15 months to 8 years) at Springers Gymnastics.

There are also plenty of community-run programs and activities being held throughout the month.

The ‘Active Hub’ will be set up on the Civic Green from April 18-23 and include giant games such as Jenga and Connect Four, sports, music, craft, gardening activities and more.
