Lightouse Theatre 2016 season launch

News Article Date:
Thursday, 3 December 2015

The Lighthouse Theatre has unveiled its 2016 Theatre Season promising high quality experiences including music, dance, drama, comedy and even the circus among its line-up.

The 2016 Theatre Season brings together 15 incredible theatre experiences and presents them onstage, right here in Warrnambool.

Perennial favourites Opera Australia, the Australian Ballet's Dancers Company, Circus Oz and shake & stir theatre company return with some classics as well as some brand new theatre experiences.

2016 will also deliver a range of new and exciting acts such as the Aboriginal Comedy Allstars, internationally acclaimed pianist Piers Lane, Gunditjmara singer songwriter and storyteller Dave Arden and raconteur Fred Smith.

Families are not forgotten with the classic tale of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie by May Gibbs in a return of the much-loved pyjama performance.

All the action can't be contained to Warrnambool though, with the Lighthouse Theatre hitting the road yet again to bring veteran comedian Rod Quantock's show Boredom Protection Policy to Mortlake and Camperdown.

Patrons at Wednesday night’s Theatre Season launch were treated to a sneak preview of three of the season’s performances.

Gunditjmara/Kokatha songman and storyteller Dave Arden with Scott Wilson performed a small sample of his musical journey into his two countries, the Gunditjmara and the Kokatha peoples.

Balladeer Fred Smith transported the audience with stories and songs inspired by his stint as a tribal and political advisor in Afghanistan.

The night of tantalising previews closed with a shimmering performance by one of 'The Diamonds' Shikye Smith who sang an up-beat Motown medley from some of the world’s most famous soul singers.

Lighthouse Theatre Manager Michael Frawley said that theatregoers could expect a diverse range of exquisite performances throughout the year.

“The Lighthouse Theatre brings us together; to celebrate, to laugh, to cry, to experience moments of wonder, intimate spectacle and incredible fleeting beauty,” he said.

“The 2016 Theatre Season is here to share these experiences through some of the finest performances from Australia and beyond.

“If you see a few shows that you are interested in attending, I’d definitely encourage you to become a Lighthouse Theatre subscriber.

“Just pick four or more shows and enjoy discounted tickets, priority seat booking, VIP functions and more.”

The 2016 Theatre Season is made possible by principal sponsor Deakin University, media partner The Standard, accommodation partner Quest Apartments Warrnambool, and production partners ABC Radio, Taits Legal and Star Printing.
