Camp Quality cabin reaches new heights

News Article Date:
Tuesday, 24 November 2015

One year after the official opening of the new respite cabin at Warrnambool City Council’s Surfside Holiday Park, Camp Quality has revealed just how popular the new abode is.

Thirty five families spent a combined 161 nights in the Warrnambool cabin between September 2014 and August 2015.

This is more than double the number of families who stayed in the older, one bedroom cabin in the previous year and a significant increase on the years prior to that.

The Warrnambool Camp Quality cabin, the only one of its kind in Victoria, provides families with children suffering from cancer a much needed holiday in a great seaside setting, free of charge.

Camp Quality State Manager Vic/Tas Lee Emberton said that everyone at Camp Quality was pleased to see such an excellent outcome.

“The Warrnambool cabin is able to provide families registered with Camp Quality a flexible opportunity to take some time away from the everyday struggles of living with cancer,” he said.

“The value of time spent together reconnecting in a relaxed atmosphere within the Surfside Holiday Park is not measured in financial terms but in the beautiful memories of the families that take up the opportunity.

“It must be acknowledged that without the generous support of both the Rotary Club of Warrnambool and Surfside Holiday Park this unique and valuable service would not be possible.”

Warrnambool City Council Tourism Services Manager Peter Abbott said that the modern facilities, as well as the city of Warrnambool itself, have proved very popular.

“In the 23 years that the project has been running in Warrnambool, the past year has been the most successful anyone can remember,” he said.

“Being able to get away and enjoy a holiday makes a real difference in the lives of families going through a difficult time.

“The feedback we have received from families staying in the cabin has been great, and we are so thrilled to work with Camp Quality, the Rotary Club of Warrnambool and other supporters to help brighten the lives of kids who need it the most.”

The new cabin was officially opened in November 2014 and was constructed using funds raised by the Rotary Club of Warrnambool, with the Warrnambool City Council providing the site and managing bookings and cleaning.
