Keeping kids safe in the car

News Article Date:
Tuesday, 14 July 2015

Making sure your child is safe in the car has never been simpler thanks to a new guide produced by the Warrnambool City Council (WCC).

The project, which has been funded by the Transport Accident Commission, collates information from several organisations including the RACV, VicRoads and the Child Restraint Evaluation Program.

The brochure outlines when to move a child to each seat type, a safety checklist, a guide on installing child seats, relevant laws and other safety tips.

WCC Travel Smart Officer Nicole Wood said that the document was a “one-stop shop” for child restraint safety information for children aged zero to seven.

“With all of the laws, regulations and guidelines about kids in cars, it can be very easy to become confused,” she said.

“This comprehensive document has all of the information you need to be confident that your child is as safe as possible in the car.

“From initial feedback, the advice on correctly installing child seats has been viewed as particularly useful.”

Hard copies of the brochure are available at the Civic Centre at 25 Liebig St, the Children’s Services Centre at Swan Reserve, all Council kindergartens and childcare centres, the Warrnambool Breast Feeding Centre.
