The Australian Skate Park League will roll into Warrnambool on February 5, with the inaugural event in the 2017 Barwon South Western Series to be held at the Warrnambool Skate Park.

The Warrnambool round is the first of eight skate park events that will be held across the region between February and April, and will feature scooter, BMX, and skateboard competitions.

Warrnambool City Council Youth Development Planner Jakeh Wearne said that the competition was suitable for competitors of all skill levels.

“For 45 seconds, the entire skate park will be yours to show off your best tricks,” he said.

“This is one of the biggest events of the year, so if you are into skateboarding, scooters or BMX, you don’t want to miss it.

“With skateboarding to be included at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, there is now the potential to take your skills to the pinnacle of world sporting events.”

The scooter event will begin at 10.30am and include under 15 and open categories.

The BMX event is at noon with under 15 and open categories.

Finally, the skateboarding event gets under way at 2.30pm with under 13, under 16, open male and open females categories.

The event is free and participants can register on the day. Under 16s will need to be registered by a parent or guardian.

Helmets will be available and must be worn while competing.

This event is presented by the Warrnambool City Council, YMCA, Victorian Skateboarding Association and FReeZA.
