Join the Merri River Paddle on October 7

News Article Date:

Warrnambool is framed by two outstanding rivers, yet many people in the community don’t get out and enjoy them as often as they should.

To celebrate World Rivers Day, Making a Difference (MAD) for the Merri is holding its annual Merri River Paddle on Saturday October 7.

Everyone is encouraged to bring their own kayak, canoe or paddle board and join in a leisurely row along the Merri River.

The river is teeming with diverse birdlife and platypuses are not an uncommon sight.

If you don’t have your own vessel, you can book a seat in a kayak or take up the offer of free paddle board hire courtesy of Go Surf School (previous paddle board experience required).

The fleet will depart from the Dennington Rowing Club at 10am and return at noon, with a barbecue lunch to follow.

The event is proudly supported by the Warrnambool Coastcare Landcare Group, the Warrnambool Kayak Club, Go Surf School and the Glenelg Hopkins CMA.

To RSVP contact Warrnambool and District Landcare Network Facilitator Matthew King on 0437 791 097 or mking@warrnambool.vic.gov.au by October 2.
