Irrigation upgrade for Walter Oval

News Article Date:
Friday, 13 January 2017

Walter Oval will receive a modern, efficient irrigation system thanks to funding from the State Government and the Warrnambool City Council.

On January 11, Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney MP pledged $100,000 for the project via the Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.

This is in addition to $120,000 provided by the Warrnambool City Council.

The project will include the upgrade of the existing bore and bore pump as well as the installation of an automated irrigation system.

The sub-surface system will reduce water and electricity costs and the volunteer time associated with moving and setting up manual irrigation systems for Walter Oval’s tenants South Rovers Football Netball Club and Wesley CBC Cricket Club.

The operation of the bore and irrigation system will be programed to occur overnight during the low-peak demand period.

An automated irrigation system will also improve the playing surface by allowing better control and monitoring of water use.
