Fun4Kids village under construction

Fun4Kids construction under way

News Article Date:
Thursday, 22 June 2017

Construction of the 2.5 acre Fun4Kids Festival village has begun.

The transformation of Warrnambool’s city centre into an indoor world of fun requires deliveries on two B-Double trucks weighing 58 tonnes each, carrying 4163sqm of marquees, over 3700sqm of flooring, 15,000 cable ties and hundreds of metres of temporary fencing and fence wrap.

Fun4Kids Site and Logistics Manager Glenn Scott said that the construction of the venue is always a massive job with this year posing new challenges.

“This year we are building the biggest sandpit we have ever built for the Sungold Pirate Cove,” he said.

“Usually we’d start building the biggest marquee on the Civic Green first and then branch out from there, but this year we’re building in reverse order, starting with the super sand pit in the Warrnambool Art Gallery car park and then linking back to the rest of the venue.”

Sungold Pirate Cove is one of 15 themed zones in the festival, where kids can tackle a pirate-themed obstacle course, learn the art of knot tying, join the great pirate tug-o-war and literally dig for treasure in the super sand pit.

“We bring in the walls, floors, ceilings and the stages and build them around existing buildings like the former Deakin city centre building, Spartan Mixed Martial Arts, the bowling alley and the art gallery – it is a massive logistical exercise,” Mr Scott said.

“We do our very best to minimise disruption to business and the public.”

Liebig Street, from Smith Avenue to Timor Street, will be closed until 5pm on July 19.

The festival fun kicks off on July 5 and runs until July 9.

Don’t miss festival first-timers Jimmy Giggle, Trolls and Paw Patrol.

Bigger kids will love Frank Woodley, Captain Festus McBoyle’s Travelling Variety Show, Melbourne City Ballet, and comedian Josh Earl.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.fun4kids.com.au, at the Lighthouse Theatre box office in Timor Street or by calling the festival hotline on 5562 4044.
