Ni Hao: Welcoming Business Workshop

Free workshop on maximising Chinese tourism benefits for business

News Article Date:

Businesses will be equipped with the knowledge they need to capitalise on the booming Chinese tourism market at a free event.

The Ni Hao: Welcoming Business Workshop will be held on August 21 as part of the Great South Coast Small Business Festival.

Experts will provide insight and guidance on how local businesses can reach and engage the inbound Chinese tourism market.

Warrnambool City Council Manager Economic Development and Investment Shaun Miller said that China is now Victoria’s most important international tourism market by some margin.

“The number of Chinese visitors to Victoria has doubled to 569,000 over the past five years and this figure is rapidly climbing,” he said.

“This is significant, but it is even more pertinent for local businesses when you see that the total expenditure of Chinese tourists is more than the next six countries combined, and it’s going to be more than the next ten counties combined by 2020.

“So Chinese tourists are here, and they are ready to spend.”

Mr Miller said that while Chinese tourists were happy to pay for quality goods and services, they had specific expectations.

“What good service looks like to a Chinese visitor can be different to what a domestic tourist might expect,” he said.

“One thing that is very clear with the Chinese market is that word of mouth is very important and they love to share their experiences, good or bad, with their friends and family.”

“If you work in the tourism or hospitality industry, or you have a business with a product or a service that you think could appeal to Chinese visitors, this free workshop will show you simple steps which can make a big difference to the experience of Chinese tourists and ultimately, your bottom line.”
