F Project celebrates with parade and party

News Article Date:
Friday, 2 December 2016

The revived Fletcher Jones Christmas Garden Party was an instant hit when held in 2014.

This year’s Garden Party, the third organised by community arts group, the F Project, will feature a parade starting in the city centre.

A crowd of about 200, along with vehicles from the soon-to-be-opened Warrnambool Motor Museum, will gather at the intersection of Liebig and Koroit streets at 9am this Saturday, walk along Koroit and Lava streets before arriving at Pleasant Hill by 10am.

In the parade there will be metres of bunting, trouser windsocks and a lantern version of the Fletcher Jones man, all created by Francis van der Mark and people who participated in his workshops, with assistance from a grant through Warrnambool City Council's Community Development Fund.

F Project president Emma Charlton said the both events – the parade and the market – were an “ode to the parades and Christmas parties Fletcher Jones held for staff of the factory and the broader community.”

"The market garden party will see the Fletcher Jones garden brimming with art markets, music, entertainment, food and drink, the annual arts on the grass challenge, exhibitions at Outlaw gallery and Factory Arts, the Fletcher Jones markets, the launch of a new panel for the Stories of Fletcher Jones Project, fashion parades, and the most wonderful opportunity to relax under the sun," Ms Charlton said.

The Fletcher Jones Christmas Garden Party is supported by Factory Arts, Outlaw Gallery, the Fletcher Jones Market, and F Project members.

Traffic management will be in place while the parade is under way.
