A taxi driver’s willingness to go the extra mile for his passengers has earned him the 2017 Warrnambool Customer Service Award.

Alex Trahar of Warrnambool Radio Taxis was presented with the accolade at an awards ceremony on November 16 at South West TAFE.

Mr Trahar, who was an electrician before changing careers, said that it was an honour to be nominated.

“I moved here six years ago and the people have just been fantastic,” he said.

“Warrnambool is such a wonderful place to be.

“The people I help and the customers are all wonderful people.”

Warrnambool City Council Manager Economic Development and Investment Shaun Miller said that Mr Trahar takes great pride in his job and the service he provides.

“Alex is an extremely passionate person whose friendly disposition helps him to connect with his customers regardless of their age or circumstance,” he said.

“Rather than just carrying out his job, he thoughtfully takes the time to accommodate the needs of his clients to make things as easy as possible for them.

“I’d like to congratulate all of the finalists for playing their part in creating a better city to live and spend time in.

“I know when I receive good customer service, it puts me in a great mood for the rest of the day. So as well as encouraging repeat business, good customer service helps to create a happier Warrnambool.”

St Pius X school crossing supervisor Gerard McConnell was the runner-up.

Other finalists were Emma Kirkham of South Coast Junior Aquatics, Ludwig Mjeda of Warrnambool Toyota, Georgia Langston previously of Hairhouse Warehouse, Scott Penny of Specsavers and Kirsty Debono of Woolworths East Warrnambool.

The Warrnambool Customer Service Awards are presented by the Warrnambool City Council, South West TAFE, 3YB/Coast FM and The Standard.
