The annual Celebrage festival returns this month, providing older residents ample opportunities to try new things, meet new friends and make the most of their life in Warrnambool.

Celebrage will be launched on October 8 at the Warrnambool Art Gallery, with guest speaker Vicki Jellie discussing the important role seniors play in the community and encouraging people to continue to stay active as they age.

The launch will also see the announcement of the 2017 Victorian Senior of the Year nominees.

Archie Graham Community Centre Coordinator Ken Radley said that the popularity of the event is increasing year on year.

“Celebrage has been running for a few years now and is becoming very well attended,” he said.

“This is great, as it shows that older people in Warrnambool are interested in opportunities to get out and about and enjoy themselves.

“Retirement is when you should spend more time doing the things you enjoy. Or if there is something you’ve always wanted to start doing, now is a great time.

“While the program is designed for seniors, two ‘seniors’ in Warrnambool can have a 40 year age gap, so we make sure we offer a diverse range of events to cater for different interests and mobility levels.

“Whether you want to enjoy the music of legends like Athol Guy of the Seekers, have a hit of tennis, go on a street-art walk or just have a cuppa and cake in a friendly environment, you will have something to enjoy at Celebrage.”

As part of the state-wide festival, Victorian Seniors Card holders are entitled to free travel on Victorian public transport between October 8 and October 15.

For more information check out the full program of events, call 5559 4920 or visit the Archie Graham Community Centre in Timor Street.

Some events have already sold out, so please book as early as possible.
